Local music

As I understand it Norway has quite an array of musical offerings, I was wondering what the chances of driving through some tiny unknown town and finding some black metal band playing the local bar or finding a random jazz jam at the bottom of a fjord?

Or is music (I dont mean pop tosh) confined to the cities, i've seen lots of classical advertised in the main cities, but what about some folk, blues, soul n funk etc. Found some rock bars in Bergen too so sorted for that.

Also churches, what's the likely hood of hearing some Norwegian choral practice?

There is not normally a lot of cultural events going on in the fjords in summer. There is this festival outside Bergen in August.

and I seem to remember there is something similar in the fjords, but cannot recall the name at the moment. There is a list of events here

I doubt there will be any choral music during summer when most are away on holiday. Perhaps some visiting choirs.

Try this hotel in a tiny unknown town between Bergen and Stavanger http://www.fuglfonix.no/hotel-hotel-373

One of the owners is a sound engineer and If the dates of their own events don't work for you they are sure to be able to link you to other places. Wonderful and little known part of the fjord are for a holiday too.

Summer is the season for all sorts of music venues/festivals. In September everybody is busy getting back to their work and studies. Fjords are already at the end of the tourist season. I think Oslo would be the best place for music at this time of year. Rock bars in Bergen would not have live performances every day, mainly at week-ends. Also check out the student venues Kvarteret/Hulen as there is often something on in these places.

In Oslo you will find plenty of things jazz, blues etc. Bergen too, but more limited.
