Day trip from Finnish Lapland to Norther Norway

We (family of 4 :2 adults & 2 kids)will be in Finnish Lapland (perhaps Saariselka)in August and would like to visit Northern Norway and spend 1 night.

Which town would you suggest we visit and where can we stay for 1 night?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Seems a long drive for one night, from Ivalo to closest place of some size in Norway I guess 3-4 hr cardrive,(Karasjok). Finnmark county is flat, not so much water, nor so many trees as in Finland. I'd stay longer, a visit to Tromso perhaps ?

We'll probably do Alta & Tromso, after North Cape.

What would you recommend to see and do?

Also where can we stay? We will be 5 now: 3 adults and 2 kids. (mother-in-law may be joining us in Finnish Lapland).

Thanks and advise.

What to see and visit depends on your interests. But for 1 night Tromsø is way too far.

In my opinion, North Cape is a waste of time, it is an expensive tourist trap. Why not visit Vardø and Hamningberg instead?

We have now set our mind on Kilpisjarvi in Finland, as this is very close to Tromso (only 4hrs) and Skibotn, Norway (only 42mns).

We will not be driving all the way up to the North Cape.

What do you think?

Is Skibotn worth a visit, since it is only 42 minutes from Kilpisjarvi in Finland?

Any other close Norwegian towns worth visiting besides Skibotn and Tromso that are not far from Kilpisjarvi?

We will not be doing any hiking..Sightseeing and enjoy nature/culture with kids in a new environment.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.

This guy has a some nice pictures from Troms county (even if you don't do heavy hiking you get an impression):

The Lyngen area is famous for it's alpine landscape.

South of Tromsø there is an arctic zoo:

Traveling with kids in Northern Finland/Lapland, which closest Norwegian towns will you recommend that we visit for 3 days/2nights in August?

Thanks for all the help.

It depends on what you're interested in. Karasjok has the Sapmi Park (tourist park with reindeer etc.) and the Sami Parliament as tourist attractions, Kautokeino has Juhls silversmith, Alta has the rock carvings (which are on UNESCO's World Heritage List), Nordkapp is a must for a tourist, Tromsø has Polaria, Arctic Cathedral, whale watching, etc.
