1. Re: car rental , arriving to bodo late at night

The chaepest options:

1) Go by boat from Bodø to Moskenes (the car ferry) or Stamsund (the Coastal express - Hurtigruten), and rent a car there

www.lofotenleiebil.no/page/15559/…

2) Rent-a-wreck is the chepaest in Bodø

www.rent-a-wreck.no/filial_no.php…

But there are a lot of car rentals in Bodø - try this link

http://www.leiebilguiden.no/norge/bodo.php

Sorry all is in Norwegian, just ask for some translation.

1. CAR FERRY: BODØ - MOSKENES

This car ferry takes you directly from Bodø to the central Lofoten islands (about 4 hours)

(click on the right dates) - the first ferries after midnight leave Bodø at 0045, 0430 and 0600.

2. CAR FERRY: BODØ-VÆRØY-RØST-MOSKENES

I guess you are going to the central Lofoten islands, but if you want to explore the western islands of Lofoten (Værøy and Røst) you could maybe go there in the first or the last part of your trip. Out there you don't need a car. This is the time tables (click on the right dates)

ruteinfo.hurtigruten.com/no/default.aspx…

PRICES:

Bodø-Røst: Adult: NOK 173,- Children: NOK 86,- Car: 627,- + booking fee

Bodø-Værøy: Adult NOK 142,- Children: NOK 71,- Car: 509,- + booking fee

Moskenes-Røst: Adult NOK 121-, Children NOK 61,- Car: 432,- + booking fee

3. FASTFERRY (NO CARS): BODØ-SVOLVÆR

This fast ferry takes you from Bodø to Svolvær (eastern part of Lofoten). It leaves Bodø in the afternoon and Svolvær in the morning.

ruteinfo.hurtigruten.com/no/default.aspx…

PRICES: Adult NOK 317,- Children: NOK 159,-

4. THE COASTAL EXPRESS (HURTIGRUTEN): BODØ-STAMSUND

This cruise ship leaves Bodø at 1500 every day - 4 hrs. to Stamsund - and 6 hrs. to Svolvær. Return from Svolvær 2000 and Stamsund 2200.

PRICE: Adult: NOK 426-, to Stamsund

And one more option:

5. PLAIN

If you're lucky you could find som nice prices on the flights Bodø-Røst, Bodø-Leknes or Bodø-Svolvær (or also Røst-Leknes) for NOK 320 - 370,-

It's often a lot of waves between Bodø and Lofoten so if you don't want to be sea-sick, this could be an alternative
