Cabin /hotel

We have been looking at the Lyngen Fjordside cabins but do you think they are good for a first time visit? or would we be better in a hotel.

Could we get tranfers to the cabins or would we need to drive? Looking at february time so what would driving be like as in snow on roads?

We are looking to see the northern lights and mabye a trip on the dog sldge but that is about as adventerous as it gets. Maybe a spot of fishing for the men.

Sorry should of put in tromso forum.

It's a couple of hours from Tromsø (too far for a taxi I guess) so you probably need to find a local bus or rent a car (unless the owner of Lyngen Fjordside offers some transfer service). I am not familiar with public transport in the area.

In February there will most likely be ice or hard snow in this area, heavy snow fall (snowstorm) is also likely. Traffic basically runs as normal, but some experience/skills recommended for such conditions.

Troms is the region surrounding Tromsø, so this is the right forum.

I think you would be better off with something closer to Tromsø. These do offer transfer

What about the Laukline cabins? Would they be too far out?

If you plan to stay in or around your cabin most of the time, all the locations mentionned are fine. Lyngseidet can be reached with bus from Tromsø, takes 1hr. 15min. For Lauklines you need a taxi. Ersfjordbotn can be reached by taxi or bus, bus takes 45min.

If you plan to participate in organized tours or activities most of the days, it would be more convenient staying in Tromsø.

There is going few buses during the day time, but Lauklines have also a good deal with the local taxi company, so if you are 4, then the price is ok. But, the owner, Andreas, have a also a car for rental out there, so you can use this for shopping and small tours if you like.

Ersfjordbotn Kystferie is also a good choice, but they haven`t sauna..;)

If you like to have all in one place, you should choose Lauklines, just because they have this:

Activities & equipment rental - http://www.tromsonaturogfritid.no

Charter boat for deep sea fishing and the best fishing guide in the area - http://www.arcticfishingadventures.no

And if the weather get cloudy for the Northern Lights chase, this 2, Magne & Marcus, run Aurora tours too.

So, what more you need, when you have everything on one place... the locations is http://www.lauklines.no in Kattfjord, 35 km from Tromsø airport!

I hope you will have a wonderful experience. A short trip report at the end of your stay would be of great help to future travellers and forum regulars alike. Especially the pros and cons of staying outside Tromsø would be interesting.
