Torp airport to Tromso and on into Finland

have an idea in mind to fly into Torp ( Ryanair ) and make my way north to Tromso - and maybe go over into Finland / Sweden from Tromso.

Is there any reasonable priced public transport on those routes , or am I better hiring a car ?

There are no flights for Tromso from Torp. Hiring a car will be very expensive and time consuming - Tromso is appr. 2000 kms north of Torp, and you must expect to use several days on the journey. A one way car hire is also much more expensive than a round trip.

You can have a flight from Torp to Trondheim with Wideroe:

http://www.wideroe.no/?language=en

and then have a choice to continue on this airline with a transfer in Trondheim, or have a choice between SAS and Norwegian airlines for the trip to Tromso:

http://www.norwegian.no/sw7127.asp

www.sas.no/default.aspx…

You will also have the option of using the train, but it doesn't go further north than Bodo and you will have to use bus or a flight for the remaining distance.

How much time have you got, and when do you plan to go ?

There is a bus connection from Tromso to Finland. See:

www.eskelisen-lapinlinjat.com/en/index.php…

If you want to do an open jaw trip you can leave Tromso and eventually arrive to Kolari or Rovaniemi by bus. From there you can take the train to Tampere. From Tampere you can fly Ryanair back to Dublin.

For the trip to Tromso you might consider taking the bus from Torp to Oslo and train to OSL airport. From there you'll have several connections to Tromso.

Actually there's a direct flight between Torp and Tromso, operated by Wideroe (summer only, 4 times a week - Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat). Prices tend to be around 1000-1500 NOK for a round trip.

Other public transport would include:

Torp-Oslo: Bus or train

Oslo-Trondheim: Bus or train

Trondheim-Bodo: Train

Bodo-Tromso: Bus

A drive from Torp to Tromsø would cover 1760km (1093 miles) and entail close to 24 hours of constant driving (ie. driving for 8 hours each day it'll take 3 days to get to Tromso).

The plane from Torp (Oslo Torp) to Tromsø is operated by Widerø http://www.wideroe.no/.

The tickets vary from about 700-1600.

Depending on when you are travelling, this might be the cheapest and fastest thing to do.
