Northern Lights in September.

I have holidays to take at the end of September and have decided to look into visiting Norway and hopefully seeing the Northern Lights. Could anyone give me some advise on whether it would be worth while going at this time to see the lights and where best to see them.

Regards

We seen normally the NL in end of August, and all guides start theirs guided tours in mid-September. For few years ago the activtiy was just amazing in end of that months, but of course, you never know... The Sun is the boss in this case.

If you go to Norway, you have to go to the north... into the Arctic... Tromsø is a nice place, and if you fly into Oslo you can fly with http://norwegian.com or http://sas.no further north. If you come via London, there is a directly flight from Gatwick to Tromsø on Tuesdays and Saturdays... Welcome!

I can see you are from Scotland..;)

http://norwegian.com has started an easier route from Edinburg via Oslo to Tromsø. When you check the flights, please fill in Edinburg to Tromsø, and you will see the choices... Good luck..;)

Hi thanks for your information it is much appreciated, Tromso was a place I had been looking at to view the lights. Have you any information on hotels and guided tours in this area?

Davie,

On top of the Norway forum there is a sticker with the subject "Please post your review here", there are several links to trip reports from Tromsø that might be helpful for your upcoming trip. Otherwise I'm no expert on Tromsø, so I will leave it to others to answer your questions.

Hi there,

The northern lights would be the main reason I would be traveling to Norway and would be very disappointed if I missed them because I travelled over to early on in the season. Would I be best holding off and visiting mid winter.
