Boat trip from Copenhagen to Oslo

Hi. I thought I would take a boat. Is the scenery worth it?

It's overnight so depends on time of year and most is open sea. The last couple of hours into Oslo up the Oslo Fjord is very nice, but not spectacular like the western fjords - it pays to get up early and get a breakfast table in the front by a window and watch from there. IMO the trip is much more relaxing than hassling about getting to and from airports and you save on a night's accomodation. Full information on prices and timetables at http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/

I would be going This Friday, 8/16. Is this an OK time of year? Sorry but not sure what IMO means.

It is summer, that should be an excellent time of year. IMO=in my opinion

Forecast is rain though so the visibility could be so-so

Hi again. I will just stay overnight in Oslo. Just thought the ride would be nice. Have a couple of days. Can you recommend a hotel not too expensive for the night? Do you know about the train to Stockholm? Thought I would take that down spend 2 or 3 days, and back to Copenhagen. Thoughts?

I know it is a lot, but I had a house swap invite in Copenhagen and decided, why not. Not sure when I will get back to this part of the world. So am trying to make it count. Copenhagen only needs a few days to see it.

PS, I am from NY

Look at reviews and search for prices here on TA for hotels in Oslo: tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g190479-Oslo_Eastern_…

I normally book directly with the hotels, but use TA as guide. I also like www.booking.com for looking at reviews and checking prices.

Thoughts? The rail journey to Stockholm is flat and boring forest. While in Norway go and see some real fjords - look at the Norway in a Nutshell route http://www.fjordtours.com

This is a do it yourself tour on public transport - you could take the 12:01 train from Oslo and stay overnight in Flåm, continue to Bergen on Sunday and take the sleeper train back to Oslo. Or stay in Bergen and fly back to Copenhagen. visitnorway.com/no/…

Both the recommended trains still have minipris tickets available at https://www.nsb.no/?lang=en_US. The rest of the journey you can just pay as you go without booking. There are a couple of cruise ships in Flåm on Saturday, but they should be gone by the time you arrive and no cruise ships on Sunday so shouldn't be too crowded.

Otherwise look around Oslo http://www.visitoslo.com/en/

Since you posted this on Northern Norway forum, I thought to tell you about a much more scenic boat trip, so please check up http://Hurtigruten.com

And for one of worlds most beautiful train journey you should try Oslo - Bergen..;)

Sounds like a good trip. with advice here probably going late May early June so should have long daylight. Compared it with trains which takes less time, but needs a hotel somewhere. so price comparable, and we like boat trips.
