Late season skiing?

I'm in Oslo May 8 and wonder if there is any late season skiing between Oslo and Bergen? Suggestions of other places to ski accessable by public transport also welcome.

many thanks, Glenn Australia

In between Oslo and Bergen you find Geilo, which is a resort in the mountains with one of the longest season.

However, May is late and their last advertised activity is at the end of April (The traditional cross-country races Skarverennet).

This year has so far been a full winter with much snow, but it is difficult to predict how long the snow will stay - even in the mountains. Try to email one of the adresses given on their website for any up to date plans.

Hemsedal usually closes after first weekend of May.

For Norwegians, late season skiing is often back country skiing at high altitudes. At Finse (the highest station on Bergen-Oslo line) you can go skiing until mid May at least.

Finse also has alpine facilities (although rather modest).

Bring sunblock, the sun is deadly strong up there.
