Any good value bars & restaurants?

Are there any good value bars and restaurnts near the Thon Hotel Munch? This hotel is just north of Karl Johan's Gate in Oslo near the court houses and Teatergata. I have already done a bit of research but any additional tips would be welcome. Thanks.

Eating in restaurants is expensive in Oslo. Drinking alcohol very much more so. But what do you mean "good value"? If you are looking for the cheapest options go to the lower part of Trondheimsveien where you will find various Asian/Middle Eastern restaurants.

Justisen Bar and Restaurant on Mollergata is quite good and reasonable prices, though as in most places you get what you pay for. Interesting walk to get there, through the bomb site.

A recent article shows some prices in Oslo: osloby.no/sulten/Her-finner-du-Oslos-billigs… (use Google Translate/Chrome or other for translation). Prices in the article vary from 39 NOK to close to 100 NOK for 50cl beer.

One of my favourites is Smalhans

Another that offers a lot of taste for not too much money is Resturant Fjord http://restaurantfjord.no/ or Brasserie Blanche http://www.blanche.no/side.asp?id=8

Thanks everyone, very useful. A couple of bars that look ok to me are Tekehtopa Cafe and the live music bar Herr Nilsen and the outdoor cafe in Rosenkrantz gate. Any opinions regarding these?

Sorry, I've not been to either.

A good placefor a drink and to people-watch is Aker Brykke or Tjuvholmen. Expensive, yes, but there is generally always something going on.

Other good places to have a drink is at the top of the SAS hotels, both at Holbergsplass and the Radisson Plaza. Excellent views.

Lorry's is great for different beers and is probably not too far from your hotel.

Teketohpa is great for a beer or two (don't know about the food, haven't tried it). Nice athmosphere and great outdor seating if the weather is good. Herr Nilsen is great if there is a good band plaing, otherwise it's just a traditional pub. If you like jazz, Bare Jazz in Grensen is a nice place for a drink or a coffee. First store is a record shop specializing in jazz, the second floor and the backyard is a cafe. No concerts though.

As a general tip, if you go east from you hotel instead of west, the restaurants will be cheaper. Karl Johan and the area north/west of your hotel is more expensive than the eastern part of the city. If you like Asian food, Bernt Ankers gate has lots of cheap, Vietnamese places. Møllergata has a lot really good and not too expensive burger/pizza/texmex places (nice ones, not greasy spoon places)

That's great advice. Has anyone tried Cafe Marhaba (Lebanese) or the Sushi bar Eat Sushi & Wok?
