May & June Public Holidays

We're planning a Scandinavian trip- Sweden, Denmark & Norway- late May or early June but there's a few national holidays in those countries clustered during that time- Ascension Day, Whit Sunday, & Whit Monday (And National Day in Sweden). Can anyone give general advise on what's closed/open on those days in terms of museums, restaurants, public transportation, etc? We could change our dates if if it seems wise to avoid those holidays. Thanks for any help.

Restaurants do stay open in Norway on holiday. So do kiosks, small grocery stores (under 100 square meters), bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas etc. Museums decide themselves so some are open while others are not, check homepages for such information.

Public transport will run at a reduced schedule (usually Sunday service).

Norway's National Day is May 17th, and I do recommend experiencing it (in Bergen or Oslo, IMHO).

Note also that shops and supermarkets will probably close earlier than normal on the Saturday in Whitsun weekend - check also if there are changes in public transport and other opening hours.

It is still a public holiday and info above apply. Do not expect many attractions to be open. Big party night. Certain roads closed off in the morning in cities.

Could it be awkward, trying to be at the airport at 6:45 a.m. on the next day to catch our flight going back home?

On the 18th - no not at all - it is a Sunday - not even a lot of traffic to be expected.
