Wheelchair / scooter access

We'll be visiting Oslo while on a cruise. One of our group has difficulty walking and is renting a motorized scooter on the cruise. We are wondering if it is convenient to use the scooter to navigate around town. Will we be able to use public transportation with it or would it be better to have a wheelchair?

A scooter would be fine for getting around on streets and sidewalks. A wheelchair would be easier on public transport if the person is able to walk a few steps. The metro is well adapted to wheelchairs, but not trams and buses. Many wheelchair users prefer special taxis with lifts to get around.

Oslo and the transport network is reasonably well adapted for wheelchair users and presumably that would apply for scooters too - see https:/…. On buses at least there is a place for wheelchairs and a ramp can be extended for easy access and I've seen scooters use these.

The problem as stated by Ruter is that some stops/platforms may not be suitable - but I can't find any overview of these. You could try contacting Ruter and asking if the stops you intend to use would cause problems.

I was, by chance, on a bus yesterday when someone in a wheelchair boarded. You wait at the 2nd set of doors (not the front), the driver comes back and opens the ramp. The place for wheelchairs (probably room for 2) is just inside - there is a button to let the driver know when you want to get off. Just about all stops in the city have curbs which mean that the ramp is not steep and presumably suitable for scooters and wheelchairs. Perhaps out in the countryside there might be stops without a curb which would make the ramp rather steep. You could ask the driver if there is going to be any problem getting off where you are going.
