Oslo to Bergen Direct or NIN?

My husband and I are honeymooning for 12 days in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. We fly into Oslo on July 28. We would like to visit both Oslo and Bergen. Would you recommend taking the direct train from city center to city center or spending a day doing the Norway in a Nutshell tour and spending a night in Flam and continuing to Bergen on Day 2? A friend of mine also stayed in Geiranger and said it was beautiful--is it possible to stop there on the way to Bergen through NIN?

Thank you so much! I have been doing lots of research and am trying to determine our best route.

For Geiranger you need to take the train Oslo-Dombås-Åndalsnes and the bus Åndalsnes-Geiranger through Trollstigen. You could spend the night in Geiranger, continue to Ålesund by bus or boat and take a flight to Bergen. I have not looked at the connections, so the boat might not work in connection with a flight. If you have the time I think I would recommend this itinerary over the NiN as it is less busy.
