Trondheim to Bergen

We are a family of 5 (3 teenage boys) looking to plan a summer trip driving from Trondheim to Bergen in 7 days. We enjoy hiking , beautiful views,nature and adventure stuff (rafting climbing) Can anyone recommend the key places, highlights and some great hikes along this route.

For rafting you should go with a guide that knows the local conditions. Sjoa, Valldal and Voss are good places (varying difficulty).

From Trondheim you can choose different routes. E39 (shortest Trondheim-Ålesund) runs in the least impressive landscape. Leaving the E39 near Kristiansund you can drive along the very coast:

You can also go via Oppdal-Sunndalsøra-Åndalsnes, dramatic landscapes (many of the world's tallest waterfalls are in this area):

Or you can stay on E6 over the high plateau then switch to E136 and dive into the magnificent area around Åndalsnes:

About hiking: At least 50 % of the area along the Trondheim-Bergen drive is some kind of mountain, so endless hiking opportunities. Jotunheimen (literally "giant mountains") are the highest in Norway and the snow cover stays long, so time of year is important.
