Hurtigruten Cruises

Interested in a 5 or 6 day cruise in late May or early June. Has anyone taken a Hurtigruten cruise?

Just remember they are not cruises in the traditional sense. Hurtigruten is a working ferry. There is little or no entertainment, no dressing up, cabins more basic than a cruise ship but comfortable, food is good but not a lot of choice, stops at ports can be anything from 10 mins to several hours. If you take a full trip Bergen to Kirkenes this includes full board. Or you can take just port to port for a shorter trip, only includes breakfast but you can upgrade and include dinner. Prices appear expensive because the cost of living in Norway is high, alcohol is very expensive. You will see much more than on an enormous cruise ship and experience more of Norway and her people.

However it is a fabulous trip along the Norwegian coastline, generally it follows the coastal inland waterway and much of the journey is in sheltered waters. The scenery is stunning and much of the trip is just watching the world go by. There are excusions you can book and worth taking.

I have done 2 trips along the coast and 1 on their expedition ship, they were all truly magnificent. So long as you understand what Hurtigruten offers you will have a fab trip. Enjoy.
