Fjords with a rented car from Bergen and a 6-month-old baby

Hello!

Please help us:)

We are traveling to Norway and the Fjords in July 2014- our first trip overseas as a little family.

Taking a train from Oslo to Bergen - and renting a car for 4 days there.

Our plan is to drive from Bergen to Flam on the first day, take the famous ferry, maybe go hiking and stay in the area till the next day.

What should we do for the next 3 days?

At first we thought of driving to Stavanger but it seems that Pulpit Rock is not so safe to hike with a baby carrier and to be honest I am so scared of heights!

We just want places to visit that are baby friendly - we love nature, walking through forest, natural produce, farms, fishing, hiking (but need relatively easy hikes carrying a 6-month-old boy... )

It must be a round trip back to Bergen.

Would it be feasible to drive to Atlantic road in 3 days and back to Bergen or would it be a stressful trip with a baby? We really want to take everything in and not make it stressful :)

What towns would you recommend to visit? Which places to stay at (not a crazy price but close to nature, views etc)

Should we go South or North from Flam?

Looking forward to your suggestions

I would not spend the extra time and effort going north to the Atlantic road. There are plenty of great sceneries around Sognefjord, including interesting road constructions. Everywhere is close to nature there, rather imposing, no cities, even in the industrial town of Årdal the nature is in charge:

Thank you... Are there any other Fjords in the north that are worth seeing? Any specific baby friendly hikes anyone knows about?

There are plenty of hikes anywhere (ask locals once there) and I guess with a baby hiking is best on tractor roads, well-kept roads to summer farms or similar (real wilderness paths tend to be very rugged).

Driving between Sognefjord and Atlantic road you will pass several major fjord systems: Nordfjord, Geirangerfjord, Romsdalsfjord. All these fjords are great, and more or less similar to Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord, and it is not really important to see them all.
