Oslo - Sognefjord - Pulpit rock - Gothenberg

Dear Forum Members,

Can you help me with Oslo - Sognefjord - Pulpit rock - oslo travel plans.

1. Friday >>> Train to Flam via Bergen, Sognefjord cruise to Bergen

2. Sat >>> Visit Pulpit rock

3 Sun >>> Return to Oslo

Can you advise on:

1. How to get to Pulpit rock from Bergen. Is there an express ferry or bus or train on Fri night?

2. Which cruise has to be boarded for seeing best of Sognefjord?

Thanks

You are a bit short of time for doing all that.

From Oslo you need to follow the Norway in a Nutshell timetable from Oslo to Bergen and I am not sure you will be in Bergen in time for the last bus to Stavanger.

www.kystbussen.no

The earliest possible arrival in Flåm from Oslo would be 13:10

Provided you travel in high season you can catch the ferry to Gudvangen for the fjord cruise on the Nærøyfjord at 13.20 arriving in Gudvangen at 15:30, bus from there to Voss you will reach Voss at 16:30 approximately. Earliest arrval in Bergen by train from Voss would be 17:50, next arrival 19:00 and last bus departure from Bergen to Stavanger is at 19:00 hrs. If you succeed, it will be an 18 hour day.

With a very early start from Bergen on the Saturday (07:30), you might be able to do same day Pulpit Rock hike.

I would advice against doing this, way too rushed like Norway on speed, but of course your choice. If you would like to save time, there are flights BGO-SVG.

www.sas.no

www.norwegian.com (have sale at the moment)

I would recommend you take flight between SVG-OSL if you swing by Stavanger. It will for sure save you time and the train or bus ride Stavanger-Oslo is rather uninteresting.

You have already asked for and received the expert advice, but it seems you don't want to listen to it. Your proposal is simply not practical with both limited time and budget. Use Google Maps to see how far you have to travel to do it, and Get Directions there to see how long it takes.

If you add one day, then you can do it, or if you add two and have a rental car from Gudvangen then you also can do the new highlight on the tour; Trolltunga..;)

But, budget... in Norway..?

Friday: Oslo-Bergen NiN route via Flåm.

Saturday: bus to Stavanger

Sunday: Pulpit rock, flight to Oslo or night/sleeper train.

Bear in mind there is hostel (and hotel standard) accommodation at the starting point of the Preikestolen hike which might be helpful if completing your plan has priority over budget. www.preikestolenfjellstue.no/index.php…

The bus journey from Stavanger to Kristiansand is very scenic and enjoyable, but the train is probably best from there to Oslo.
