Gudvagen to Flam ferry

Is the Fjord1 car ferry the only ferry company that makes this trip?

There is one alternative, which is a rib boat: fjordtours.com/en/…

Thanks, Pippi2 for your quick response. Unfortunately, the PIM boat was booked!

Can you answer some other questions?

We are thinking of taking the bus from Bergen to Voss. We heard that the train scenery is not special and that the bus ride was prettier. Is this true? If so, should be sit on the right or left side of the bus?

Also, can we rent a kayak for a few hours in either: Voss, Gudvagen or Flam? or do we have to take an organized tour or class in order to kayak? I have tried to contact Nordicventures, but get no reply.

The only reservation we have is the Mrydal to Oslo train departing at 17:57. Is it true that it is not necessary to make advance reservations for the other parts of the trip: bus Voss to Gudvangen, Gudvangen to Flam boat, and Flam to Myrdal train?

Many thanks! Charlene

The bus Bergen-Voss and the train offers approximately the same scenery. There is however a bus via the Hardangerfjord area that is more scenic but will take longer.

Yes, you have to have a certificate to kayaking on your own. If you do not have this, a guided tour is your only alternative. Kayaking can be dangerous so this is for your safety and you should be grateful that these precautions are taken.

It is true that reservations are not necessary, but you may book the Gudvangen-Flåm ferry in advance if you wish. For the train and the bus, reservations are not possible. We normally recommend to buy a through ticket Flåm-Oslo for the convenience of having the tickets at hand.

What is that alternative bus to Gudvangen? I'm trying to see the fjords without doing the NIN and considering taking a bus to Gudvangen, the ferry to Flam, and then the highspeed boat back to Bergen. I'll have already done the Oslo - Bergen train.

The alternative bus route via Hardanger mentioned by klimaflyktning in reply #3:

- Bus line 925 Bergen-Norheimsund-Granvin-Voss. Time table: skyss.no/globalassets/…linje_925.pdf

- Bus line 950 Voss-Gudvangen. Time table, see page 45: skyss.no/globalassets/…linje_900-950.pdf
