How to get from Preikestolen to Kjerag?

What are the possibilities of getting from Pulpit Rock to Kjerag in August?

We are two low-budget backpackers with tents and all neccessary equippment, and we think about one of the options:

1. hiking that distance around Lysefjorden (Is there any path around the fjord? How much would it take to get to Lysebotn?)

2. taking a ferry from Forsand/ Bratelli (btw. does the ferry stop at the right, i.e. Northern side of Lysefjorden?)

3. hitchhiking on some roads around the area (but it seems that despite the small distance between the two points it's not too easy to get from one place to another by roads...)

We'll welcome any suggestions and advice :)

This report pretty much sums it up if you rely on public transport:

To add to the information about public transport above:

1. Yes, there are hiking trails on both sides of Lysefjorden, and it is possible to hike all the way. Preikestolhytta-Preikestolen-Lysebotn is a 3-day hike, add another day for Kjerag. Trail description and map: ut.no/tur/lysefjorden-rundt-14-mil-med-natur…

2. It is possible to combine hiking and taking the ferry part of the way. The ferry docks at both sides of Lysefjord, but some stops are only on demand, you need to book the docking by phone the day before you want to travel: www.kolumbus.no/downloadfile.php…

You may read this trip report from 2011, the author hiked from Preikestolen to Bakken Gard and caught the ferry to Lysebotn: tripadvisor.com/…35020128

Another option is to take the ferry to Flørli and hike from there to Kjerag (two-day hike).

3. There is a road from Songesand to Lysebotn on the north side, but with very limited traffic, hitchhiking may be difficult. There is also a road from Lauvvik via Sirdal to Lysebotn on the south side, but a long detour compared to hiking or ferry. Apart from these, roads are non-existent. Ferry or hiking are the best options to get from A to B.
