Sorry to disappoint:-

England football matches will not now be screened in a Suffolk park following concerns raised by police.

Plans had been made to show all England's World Cup matches on a large screen in Chantry Park, Ipswich.

But Suffolk Constabulary raised a "number of concerns and requested the games not be shown", a police spokesman said.

The force was worried a combination of alcohol and "intensified emotion" could lead to trouble, he added.

This was taken from BBC East web site so I assume it is correct.

It's true, alas.

eveningstar.co.uk/news/football_festival_get…

I'd be interested to know whose 'concerns' it was the police 'listened to.' Having gone to several outdoor events in Ipswich parks, many of which included alcohol, I know of no town where there is less trouble and more good humour. Football can certainly attract some undesirable elements, but this does seem like an overreaction. It seems that even a couple of minor incidents are enough for a few people to say 'we told you so,' and the police doubtless feared that.

its a shame, i am sure there was some influence from the establishments in the town centre who were going to lose business.

You bet there was 'some influence' from the pubs in town. The comments from Barwatch make that clear enough. You can bet your life they haven't stopped pushing for this since the moment the event was announced.

Odd that the police should be worried about possible trouble at an event on the edge of town when cancellation means that a lot of the alleged potential hooligans will now be crowding into the pubs in the centre of town.

i see in todays EADTIMES ROY KEANE is reported to have said he hopes england does not win the world cup, if that is correct he should have taken the englands managers job that would have been a dead cert, we would have not even gone to south afri, with his track record at ipswich he should just shut up, its a great shame about the showing of the england matches beening cancelled in the park was looking forward to them,
