Good place to stay for 2 nights in August

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay in for a couple of nights in August within walking distance of Taunton town centre.

Have looked at previous posts about Premier Inns.

Which would be within closer walking distance to town...Taunton Central(North) or Taunton East?

We are looking for a hotel with plenty of parking and a bar which we are able to take our 12 year old son into.

Cheers

Hi

There's probably not much difference between the Premier Inns you mention but here's the lowdown on them both.

Central (North) is slightly nearer to the town centre, has a smaller car park, bigger bar area, smaller restaurant and has a Brewers Fayre. It's about a 25 minute level walk from the town centre but buses pass by on a fairly regular basis. It's about 4 years old and sits next to a housing estate that was built at the same time. It's a 5 minute drive from Junction 25 of the M5 but you have to go round the busiest roundabout in Taunton to get there.

East has a larger car park, smaller bar area but bigger restaurant and has a Beefeater. It's older than the other one and is in a residential area backing on to the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (make and supply charts, publications, tidal information etc for seafarers the world over). It's about a 35 minute level walk from the town centre but again buses pass by on a fairly regular basis. It's a 2 minute drive from Junction 25 of the M5.

You might consider the Travelodge which has recently been extended. That's very close to Junction 25 of the M5 and has a pub next door. It's not really walking distance to the town centre however and the bus service is not very good. It's in an out of town shopping/entertainment area which has the cinema, bowling alley, MacDonalds and Pizza Hut together with the pub and another restaurant.

Travelodge are more likely to do special deals than Premier Inns but August might be a different matter and personally I would settle for Premier Inns as I've never been disappointed with them.

I would have thought your son would have been allowed into all of them but it may be worth checking to see whether it's the restaurant areas only.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks WaltR,

Your detailed information has been most helpful.

The Premier Inn East looks the best bet with easier access & more parking.

We have never been disappointed with a Premier Inn yet.

Will also look at the Travel Lodge as well,as you say it is in a complex with things to do close by.

Will let you know how we get on........planning to stop off on our way back from our holiday in Paignton.

Cheers

Jas
