None I can personally recommend but you could always look at staying in Beer or Branscombe. Branscombe has a nice place called The Masons Arms which does have some self catering accommodation. Beer has quite a few places: try http://www.jeanbartlettcottageholidays.co.uk/ or Google Milkbere holiday cottages.

There is a farm on the Sidmouth side of Colyton called Bonehayne Farm which does self catering and it's about 6 miles from Sidmouth.

Sorry I can't be of more help, maybe someone who uses cottages in Sidmouth could help??

It all depends on what you are looking for, but just along the coast going west, you will find Ladram Bay Caravan Park who have plenty of static caravans, which by their nature will be self catering. Haven't stayed there but have used their pool which was OK. Website here

Thank you so much for the information, it has been really useful. I was hoping to stay in Sidmouth itself, but I think we might have left it too late!
