Can anyone leave a review? I would like to know from current and past passengers how you find the service. If you would change anything about it, what would it be?
Just travelled on the Manannan today, she arrived in Liverpool early, and we got to Douglas about 20 minutes early.
The accommodation was fine and we did 32 knots once clear of the Mersey.
""But, it is the price to be paid for living on a beautiful island." No it isn't. Its a beautiful island. But there are massive amounts of similarly beautiful places on the mainland where you don't have to put up with this."
You appear to be missing out on the word "ISLAND". That is key to the sentence "on a beautiful ISLAND"!!! Given that this thread is about the Steam Packet Company, the ISLAND bit is relevant. I'm not a 'Daily Mail reading tax dodger' as your review of Douglas implies most of us are, and I've travelled a lot in the UK and abroad. I'm fully aware that there are some fantastic, stunningly beautiful places in mainland Britain. The sunset over Morecambe Bay is the best sunset I've ever seen anywhere on the planet and the Lake District itself is breath taking at times. The North Yorkshire Moors, Scotland & Wales are all incredibly beautiful too.
But, the Isle of Man is a beautiful ISLAND and to get to the ISLAND you either have to fly or use the ferry.
Quite obviously you need to travel by sea or air to get to the Isle of Man. Likewise to travel between many places in the UK that you would travel by air or relatively expensive train. But you would still pay less and get far much more than the Isle of Man offers.
Still totally disagree,IMO the Isle Of Man is no.1 in this part of the world & one of the loveliest places I have seen worldwide, that is why I am prepared to pay whatever it costs to get there
Travelled twice on Manannan for holiday, returned last week. Both ways left and docked about 20 mins early, cant knock that. Had lounge seats, most enjoyable experience cant complain at all. My family come from I.O.M so have been a few times- always a pleasure :)
We had a similar experience last year but this was the first time it had happened on any return seacat journey out of many to the Island over the years, anytime we book to travel on one it is fingers crossed,my main dislike of the 'cats tends to be the lack of a proper bar & restaurant along with the lack of usable outdoor deck space which you used to find on their last conventional ship,The King Orry(she also IME used to regularly make the journey in less than the advertised time in pretty much any weather),sadly the Ben while having quite a nice outdoor area isn't that nice inside IMO so the choice these days isn't great.
Hope could be on the horizon however as news of a possible rival to the Steam Packet is in the offing along with an anouncement by the Packet that they have 'significantly reduced their debts' with a suggestion that they may invest in new vessel/s,it's all been heard before but fingers crossed, the Ben has been a reliable servant but is really getting on.
I went on the Manannan earlier this month and it arrived early from Liverpool and early from Douglas without any issues, it just depends on the weather as it is an enjoyable journey.
Do not waste your money booking the Nairbyl lounge as the £3 upgrade is pointless as you have no views forward or even to the side due to the height of the windows and you are more likely to feel claustrophobic just sit anywhere in the main cabin and save some money, plus the stairs are quite steep getting upstairs.
Do not use this company! We traveled over in December and on the way back a group of staff members were acting very stupid and hit us with something that was thrown at another staff member. They all just laughed and didn't bother to say sorry, worst customer service I have ever seen. If this is the mentality of crew onboard the ferry I think I'll get a plane over next time. RUDE!
Sad to hear that, even more sad that if you want to take your car you have no alternative!
Did you report the incident because otberwise this post was a waste time.
