Well, I've only ever visited Corfu once and that was 20 years ago or more. Crete offers everything on your list including an excellent bus service that links all the major towns with bus stations, from where you can then access many rural areas of the island.
There are two international airports on Crete, one in the west at Chania, and one centrally at the capital Iraklion. If you want to see some of the island's wonderful ancient sites, then it would make sense to fly to Iraklion and base yourself somewhere along that immediate coast, which is the most tourist populated part of the island.
If on the other hand, you like a less touristy area, with access to many walkable gorges, the far south coast with it's amazing beaches, and the facility to be a bit more at one with nature, then Chania would be the best bet.
