Taxi from al bustan and eating out?

Can anyone tell me how much it costs for taxis from al bustan palace to the centre and is it a safe way to travel at night? We would like to go bed and breakfast instead of half board but need to know how easy it is to eat out in the evenings?

It is really hard for me to say what the approximate taxi cost would be from there. In that direction, you would be pretty limited to the taxis that camp out at the hotel, and they charge higher rates than a taxi flagged down on the street. Just from a budgeting standpoint, you would probably want to plan on spending $15-$20 each direction, but it depends on where you are going and whatnot. You could also try to find a regular taxi driver and commission him to pick you up at a certain time.

Oman, and its taxis, are very safe. As with anywhere, you need to exercise situational awareness and basic caution though. That said, the entirety of Oman is safer than most European/American cities.

What type of food would you be looking for and what kind of environment would you like to be in? That would greatly influence the area of the city where you would want to head to for dinner.

Thank you for your advice, that is really helpful. We are both vegetarian so would be looking for places to eat that would cater for that but also nothing too expensive. Are there ant particular areas that you would recommend us heading to?
