Bus or train from Syracuse (or Noto) to Agrigento

Hello, I am planning to get from Syracuse (or Noto) to Agrigento by bus or train. Is that possible?

In fact I planned my Sicilian trip as follows :

Taormina - Syracus - Noto - Agrigento - Selinonte - Palerme

I do not see much problem with transport most of the way save for the Noto - Agrigento, and the Agrigento and Selinonte stretch.

Please help! Thanks in advance

Welcome to Sicily DanParis35!

Yes, it’s possible, but travel by train is very, very slow, 5-7 hours from Siracusa to Agrigento, and 7-8 hours from Noto to Agrigento.

Trenitalia:

www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp…

Sicilians prefer to travel by bus – Buses are fast, punctual, clean, and have air-conditioning, and buses reach areas not served by trains, like around Selinunte.

Take Interbus from Siracusa to the airport in Catania (01h15) and SAIS Trasporti from the airport to Agrigento – About 3 hours.

Interbus:

SAIS Trasporti:

You could take the train from Taormina to Siracusa, although you would first be required to take Interbus from Taormina to the Giardini train station.

Or you could take Etna Trasporti from Taormina to the airport in Catania, and Interbus from the airport to Siracusa.

Etna Trasporti:

Bus would be better from Siracusa to Noto, even though the train is a little faster, the bus would arrive in a more favourable location in Noto – You could take Interbus or AST.

AST:

Take Autolinee Lumia from Agrigento to Castelvetrano and Autoservizi Salemi from Castelvetrano to Selinunte.

Autolinee Lumia:

Autoservizi Salemi:

Take Autoservizi Salemi from Castelvetrano to Palermo.

Dear Vagabonda,

Thanks again for your comprehensive internet site listings of bus companies in Sicily and with that I have been able to work out a large part of my schedule.

However, the I was not able to find the schedule from the Autoservizi Salemi sites you provided for the Castelvetrano to Selinonte leg.

Castelvetrano does not look that far from Selinonte and I arrive at 16.00 at Castelvetrano. Can I simply assume that I can easily get a bus from there?

This is my first time in Sicily and first time travelling alone in Italy so I am real excited! :-)

Thanks again for your help !

Hi DanParis35,

Glad the bus information was helpful in working out your route.

Salemi must be updating the schedules for the “Linee Urbane” but Salemi is the bus company that services the route from Castelvetrano to Selinunte.

Without the revised schedule, I couldn’t comment on the availability of a bus at 16.00 from Castelvetrano to Selinunte.

It’s about 20 minutes from Castelvetrano to Selinunte.

Went to Noto by bus from Siracusa in June 09. About 50 mins E 3 each way. AST or Interbus. I am fairly certain that a bus starting in Siracusa goes to Noto and then on to Agrigento.

Bus routes are all fragmented in Sicily - There is no direct bus from Siracusa to Agrigento.

Not true - Public transport is quite efficient.

Trains are very slow, and if given the choice, always take the bus. Buses are reliable, fast, efficient, punctual and reasonably priced.

And the autostradas are excellent and fast roads.

9. Re: Bus or train from Syracuse (or Noto) to Agrigento

Dear Vagabonda,

For some unforeseen circumstances, my 13 day trip to Sicily has to be reduced to 6 days. I was forced, rather unwillingly to do only Taormina and Palermo.

As such, I asked if it is better to take the train or the bus from Taormina to Palermo. I do not mind the 8hr train ride, what I am looking for is beautiful scenery, gorgeous Sicilian landscapre, undulating hillsides etc.

If taking a bus means 5 hours of concrete highway, I rather take an 8 hr train ride of Sicilian natural beauty.

I thank you in advance for you advice.

It’s a pity your holiday has been cut shortDanParis35 – The autostrada between Palermo and Catania travels through beautiful rolling countryside. I would still recommend the bus. Of course neither the train or the bus will be very scenic on the outskirts of Catania.

Hope you will enjoy....
