re north sicily

Hi,

We are travelling to sicily next week with our 6 yr old. Have already done most of the west coast so this time we are travelling to Trapani but will be staying in an agriturismo in alia south of cefalu. Can you please recommend any interesting things to do (especially for our son) and nice places to visit. We had missed monreale last time so that's a must. Hope vagabonda can give us some of her expert advice.

Claudia

Welcome back to Sicily malta32!

Agriturismi are located in the countryside.

Drive more major roads whenever possible, especially after rain.

With a base around Alia, you could explore Enna, the Parco delle Madonie, Castelbuono, Cefalù, Himera, Caccamo (castle), Solunto, Bagheria, Palermo, Mondello, Monreale, Ficuzza, Corleone, Halaesa, Santo Stefano di Camastra (ceramics), Tindari, Piazza Armerina, Villa Romana del Casale, Morgantina, Aidone (museum), Caltagirone, Agrigento, the Valley of the Temples, Vulcanelli di Macalube, and Scala dei Turchi.

And surly visit Alia's Grotte della Gurfa.

Hi Claudia,

We're going to Resuttano about an hours drive east of Alia for two weeks this August with our two sons (4 and 10). Would love to hear if you have any great tips for things you did with your 6 yr old.

Many thanks,

Jesper

Kids might enjoy the Acquapark near Monreale (PA) (http://www.acquaparkmonreale.it/), the Bioparco di Sicilia in Villagrazia di Carini (http://www.bioparcodisicilia.it/), a visit to Palermo’s puppet museum (http://www.museomarionettepalermo.it/),Etnavventura (http://www.etnavventura.it/chisiamo.php), Adventure park Eco Campus Casaboli (http://www.ecocampuscasaboli.it/), Acqua Verde Cefalù (tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g194726-d1…), Gole Dell’alcantara, the Etna funivia....

Hi Vagabonda, I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on the below itineraries? We are 2 adults and 2 children ages 5 and 6 travelling with hire car. We have been to Taormina and loved it. We like beaches, eating out / nightlife, and a little shopping!

Fly to Palermo

5 nights Scopello, 2 nights Palermo, 8 nights Cefalu, 2 nights Panarea.

or

5 nights Scopello, 12 nights Cefalu (day trips to Panarea and Palermo from Cefalu)

I am trying to work out a good schedule. We really want to see Scopello/castellemare de golfo and San Vito Lo Capo for the first week and thought Cefalu would be a good base for the second week.

Is a couple of days in Palermo with some days on Mondello beach too much to fit in?

Thanks for your help... Paul

12 nights in Cefalù would be probably too much, the first option sounds preferable...

you can easily fit in Palermo and Mondello, but svoid driving in Palermo if possible, you wouldn't need or want a car there, it's advisable to use public transport to/from the city.

Many thanks biondo if I was to spend 3 nights in Palermo at the end of my trip rather than Panarea would you recommend Palermo centre or Mondello? Or should I make the extra effort and visit the islands.....

Welcome to Sicily bonzo99!

Base in Scopello and Cefalù if you plan to hire a car, and take the train to Palermo.

If you plan to spend a few days in Palermo, then return the car.

Since you can take the bus from Palermo to Mondello, and since you would have enjoyed beach time at your other destinations, perhaps stay in Palermo itself for the city experience, and some diversity.

But really consider a few days on Panarea!!!!
