trip help have 4 extra days don't know what to do with them

Here is our itinerary:

Munich 7 days (can't change)

train from munich to Innsbruck (2 days)

train from Innsbruck to Venice (3) days - can't change

pick up rental car from Venice airport for drive

through the Dolomites: Conegliano (2 days, prosecco wine road)

cortina (2 days)

ortisei (2 days)

Bolzano - (2 days) return rental car

train back to munich to fly home

problem is we have 4 extra days and don't know what to do with them - I'm afraid not to have reservations (even if it is late September) because some of the places through the Dolomites are booked or closed. Any suggestions for these days - Have been to Salzberg......and if possible would like to return the rental car after one week. thanks for your help.

Hi, it would help us if we knew where the 4 extra days fit in to the schedule...

rewirement,

You really like dolomites (conegliano, cortina, ortisei) and even Bolzano is closed by.

What about going to Italian lake district for a change from the hills?

The three days (now) fit after Bolanzo and our return back to Munich by train to fly home. Thanks

Lake Garda or Lake Como would be ideal. Also a visit to Verona.

Hi,

Just another option... you could also go to Mittenwald, Germany, which is on the way back to Munich. Mittenwald is a gorgeous village with a beautiful mountain backdrop and it's very easy by train. There's a cable car trip there (Karwendelbahn), Ettal Monestary is close by, as is Garmisch (and Germany's highest mt., Zugspitze), Oberammergau, "Mad" King Ludwig's Linderhof, etc.

We have some photo's of Mittenwald, etc. at:

If you think 4 nights/days is too much for Mittenwald, between Bolzano and Mittenwald is the lovely old town of Brixen/Bressanone, our favorite in the Dolomite region.

Mittenwald and surroundings is a great suggestion but that area could easily be done as a day trip during your time in Munich if your schedule allows. You also could have a more prolonged stay in the Dolomites and add some hiking! Enjoy.
