Train/Bus to get to Cortina (not using Cortina Express)

I get into Venice mestre/MarcoPolo area at like 4pm (16:00), and I want to try to make it to Cortina d'Ampezzo that night. Is there a train or bus (OTHER THAN CORTINA EXPRESS) that I can take? What are the departure deadlines for these last running trains/busses if any?

From Venice airport, you should travel by bus to Mestre or to Treviso railway station, take a train to Conegliano, switch to a train to Ponte nelle Alpi, than to a train to Calalzo, then to a bus to Cortina.

However the Ponte nelle Alpi to Calalzo railway is actually closed due to emergency maintenance so that leg of the trip has to be covered by bus.

Unfortunately your arriving time does not match very well public transport timetables to reach Cortina, i.e. the last connection from the plain cannot be caught later than 3:43 pm from Mestre. You can still reach Calalzo but the last part of the trip has to be done the day after (or in the evening by cab).
