New Years Eve Celebration in Ferrera

We will be arriving in Ferrara on Dec 31. Is there a celebration for New Years Eve anywhere? Also are restaurants generally open and does anyone have a suggestion for a casual restaurant walkable to the center that may be open?

Hi, we are travelling to Ferrera this year for new year and wondered if you had any recommendations based on your trip?

There will be fireworks around the castle, music, etc.

Surprisingly they even have a website (in Italian) with lots of details: http://capodannoferrara.com/

In general in Italy there's always something going on in the main square of every city, usually fireworks and/or a concert, but you don't know exactly who's going to play right until the last minute. Worrying 3 months in advance about New Year's Eve would sound ridiculous to any Italian :)

As said, every city and town in Italy does prepare something, and the not so small Ferrara won't be an exception. Anyway, you will enjoy Ferrara itself which is an amazing city. Especially in late autumn-winter, walking in ancient cobblestoned streets like Corso Ercole I d'Este or Via delle Volte amid fog, drizzle and dim street lightning is a really charming experience.
