locations in garda town

We are planning our first holiday in Lake Garda and from reading forums here, we think we shall be staying in Garda town. We are looking for a hotel but cannot find a good map of Garda town so we would know the right location to choose. Can anyone tell me the address of the bus station, and the very centre of Garda town so I can map them. Is the largest concentration of shops, cafes and restaurants in the town centre, the lakefront or the historic centre? Where is the area that most people hang out in the evenings?

Hi,

www.tourism.verona.it/_vti_g2_pu.aspx…

This link will take you to a page with downloadable maps, just scroll down to the one for Garda. It is a quite a good map with the bus station clearly marked.

Basically the area between the lake and the main road (marked in red on the map) is the town/historic centre with shops, cafes, restaurants etc. many of them on the lake front. Hotels are to be found within this area and also in the area on the opposite side of the main road.

Garda is a good base with good ferry and bus services, including a direct bus link to Verona. There is also a lakeside path which goes to Bardolino, and then on to Lazise and Peschiera.

Personally i always go the Sole e neno (reviewed here) ,although there are other hotels nearby varying in price and standard.

garda is a good choice because its easy to get to the north and the south of the lake, and indeed to verona Garda is not a very big place, The town centre really comprises the historic town (main street..loads of shops restaurants bars etc) an,d the lake front (similar) Most folk seem to find a favourite bar/restaurant on the lake front amd enjoy the entertainment.

You dont say when you will be going, but in the season there is lots going on . also ..june- august is opera season of course in verona.....

As mentioned there is a nice walk along the lake to bardolino (45 mins amble) or the other way to Punto San vigilio.

hope that helps.
