Where to stay?!?

Hi Guys, looking at booking Lake Garda for a few days late July most likely flying into Verona from Dublin. We are both mid 30`s and enjoy relaxing in the sun and leisurely walks then some nice restaurants and wine in the evenings....Maybe some music along old fashioned cobbled streets would be great too. Any ideas where we should look to book? Also probably will do a day trip to Venice if possible...Many thanks!!

Hi, will you be hiring a car or using public transport? Either way if you wanting to go to Venice it would be best to stay in the south of the lake closer to the rail stations at either Desenzano del Garda or Peschiera del Garda. Somewhere like Garda or Bardolino would be ideal, both with pedestrianised centres, nice promenades and many restaurants and bars. They both have good ferry services and an excellent bus service connecting to Peschiera del Garda, all the way up the eastern shore to Riva del Garda and also to Verona.

The end of July will be quite busy so you really need to start looking at accommodation. You may also find that some hotels, though not all, will only take minimum 3 or 4 night bookings. Most hotels in the south also offer reasonably priced airport transfers. If you are arriving late and not hiring a car you need to be aware that buses stop running quite early in the evening.

Hi, I agree with Tepore - either Garda or Bardolino would suit your needs. The lakeside paths connecting Garda, Bardolino, Cisano and Lazise are perfect for leisurely strolls. There are also several more-strenuous paths to choose from in the hills behind the towns.

In Garda on summer evenings there's usually live music in the historic centre of the town - I would think that most towns around the lake will have live music on the warmer evenings.

In the summer months there's a direct bus service to Venice three times a week from Lake Garda, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Details can be found here:

Or you could go on an organised excursion with a company called Europlan, They offer two excursions to Venice - the usual day trip or Venice by Night.

From garda is a nice amble(45 mins) to bardolino or further on to lazise..or you coud go up la rocca (the hill overlooking...sensible footwear advised...)

As stated the end of July will be busy...so you should be looking at booking

.I stay in Garda so agree it is lively on the lake front in the evenings..
