Riva to Bergamo

Thanks everyone for advice on where to stay on Garda . We have settled for Riva Del Garda then heading to Bergamo . Can anyone advise on easiest way to do this. Seems the nearest train station is 20 miles away and not sure if it goes direct to Bergamo , is the bus better or even a boat trip to the bottom of the lake and then catch something. All advice greatly received thanks

As you say Riva del Garda is a long way from the railway stations and Bergamo Airport. This is the basic information on how to do this journey from Bergamo to Riva which I hope will help.

By Bus:

There is a direct bus to Brescia (approx. 1 hour) costing 22 euros.

From Brescia you can take the train to Desenzano del Garda (approx. 15 mins) or to Peschiera del Garda (approx. 20/25 mins) and then continue to your destination either by bus or taxi.

There is also a bus from Brescia to Desenzano del Garda and Sirmione (approx. 1 hour)

There is a bus from Desenzano del Garda to Riva del Garda

From Peschiera del Garda buses run up the eastern side of the lake as far as Riva del Garda

By Train:

There is no direct link from the airport, there is a shuttle bus every 30 mins to Bergamo,

Trains run to either Desenzano del Garda or Peschiera del Garda with a change en route.

It would be possible to make the journey to the south of the lake by ferry but bear in mind this would take you well over 2 hours.

Hi, where will you be staying in Riva?

The closest station is Rovereto (your hotel may offer a transfer service) but there is no direct train service to Bergamo. You would have to make two changes, one in Verona and another probably in Brescia.

Alternatively, take the bus from Riva either down the west side of the lake to Desenzano or down the east side to Peschiera (Tepore gave the bus links above) then a train to Bergamo with a change en route.

The train web site is www.trenitalia.com (click on the flag to change it to English).

"...even a boat trip to the bottom of the lake and then catch something..."

The boat isn't worth considering - you can't take luggage on to the fast boats, and the slow boats north to south are few and far between and take over four hours.
