Transfer from and to Catania Airport

We are arriving on 2 June at Catania Airport at 16:20. Is there a direct bus from the airport to Gardini Naxos? Do we need to purchase a ticket in advance and how much would the tranfer cost? Which bus operator do you recommend and where can we find the timings?

On the way back to the airport 11 June we need to be at the airport by 08:00am. What time do the buses start from Gardini to Catania and are they reliable?

Yes, there are direct buses from the airport in Catania to Giardini – 70 minutes.

You can usually purchase your ticket at a kiosk or even on the bus itself.

Here’s an airport map, so you can see exactly where you will need to go to get your bus.

Bus is the easiest and least expensive way to get from the airport in Catania to Giardini.

Etna Trasporti runs the buses between the airport and Giardini.

ETNA TRASPORTI:

There’s a bus leaving the airport at 17.45, arriving in Giardini at 18.55.

Buses from Giardini begin at 6.45 – too late for your flight.

You could take a train from Giardini-Taomrina (share the station) to Catania and then take the AMT bus from Catania to the airport.

As 2 June is a public holiday our hotel (Villa Daphne) informed us there is only one bus at nearly 7pm from catania is that likely?

How many things are likely to be closed on a public holiday or will there be any special events in Taormina or Gardini Naxos?

If we did decide to go for car hire from Catania are there any hire compaies to avoid or ones you would recommend?

Yes, likely – also Villa Daphne is in Recanati.

2 June is Republic Day and not a major holiday – more like a Sunday. It is a bank holiday.

Taormina is a tourist area, so it will be open – you can expect restaurants, transfer services to be up and running.

Brokers work well.

AutoEurope is a broker for many different car rental agencies and offers lower prices than booking directly with the agency (if their price is not lower, they will meet the lower price you find). If you have booked with AutoEurope and you have any problems with your car, call the toll free number they provide and they will deal with it. Do not deal with the local agency yourself; let AutoEurope deal with them for you.

Italy Auto Rental is another brokers with excellent rates.

Europcar (office right in Recanati near your hotel), Avis and Hertz are reputable.
