looking for family members

My Grandparents grew up in Giulianova. My Grandfather was Pasquale Caprione and my grandmother was Antoinette Nazionale. I also had a great-uncle Thomas Romantini, my grandmother's half brother. My grandmother left Italy with her mother around 1911, my grandfather in 1920.

This forum is for questions about travel to/in Italy (clue is in the title), not for trying to contact relatives. I'm sure there are genealogical forums for that.

That's a bit harsh qaminari! We've had many visitors from the USA who have come to Teramo in search of long lost relatives and we have been very happy to help them. Many also started out by just asking questions about relatives and when information was found, they got on a plane and came here.

Here’s an application that shows concentrations of surnames in Italy – Put your surname in the box labeled “Cognomi” to see the heaviest concentrations of your family name.

http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/

Don’t be surprised if you find a branch of your family whose members all have the same names as your family in America. It is Italian custom to name children after grandparents. The first son is named after the father's father; the second son is named after the mother's father; the first daughter is named after the father's mother; the second daughter is named after the mother's mother. After the grandparents, children are then usually named for their parents, so the same names follow through generation after generation in Italian families.

Now you can go to the Italian phone book online:

You could also contact the comune in Giulianova, specifically the "Ufficio Anagrafe". The “Ufficio Anagrafe" is where all the people who were born in a town are registered.
