venice to Orbetello

I am hoping there's a logical way to get from Venice to Orbetello but am not sure how. Clearly I underestimated how long it would take to get there. We would still need to get from Orbetello to Porto San Stefano to catch the ferry to Giglio Island. I would appreciate any tips. Thank you!

There is no direct route by public transport. Trains would go either via Rome or via Florence and Grosseto, with travel times of 5.5 to 6.5 hours. Travel by car would take about 5 hours for some 435 km. However, I think it is unlikely that there would be a car rental office at Orbetello.

The fastest route is the following:

1. Frecciargento AV train from Venezia S. Lucia to Roma Termini

2. Regionale train (unreserved) from Roma Termini to Orbetello station

3. RAMA bus from Orbetello train station to Porto Santo Stefano

4. Ferry boat from Porto Santo Stefano to Giglio Porto
