3 month stay self catering

We have heard many fantastic reviews for this are and we would like to visit the area either October to December or February to April, can anyone say which would be better weatherwise (we are trying to avoid the british winter) and any recommendations for self catering accommodation available during the winter season. Thanking all in advance for advice

I would say October to December would be an ideal time to visit the Salento region...days will still be sunny but the temperature will drop in the evening time! January to February you will find it very damp and perhaps a lot of rain as we had last winter! Whereas coming into March you will still have cool evenings and perhaps sporadic rain storms then in April the weather is already becoming more pleasant and the feeling of summer will start to take hold! If you are renting a self catering property do make sure the cost of heating is incorporated as fuel bills are much more expensive in Puglia than the UK....you could be in for a shock to find out what people pay for electricity and to heat their homes here!

Good luck with your search!

Agreed. October. We're off to Martina Franca next week- only 70km further norh and a couple of hundred meters higher than Lecce, but it gets a dash of snow and ice every February! Lecce will be several degrees warmer but even so, autumn will be warmer than winter. Can't really recommend any Lecce-area accomodation, but sort out whether you wish to stay in a town; within walking distance of a range of shops, bars and restaurants, or counrty; which might mean driving everywhere. We prefer town, esp. in winter. And while I agree the comment above about cost of fuel and negotiating a heating-inclusive rent to avoid having to set up your own utilities accounts (incredibly bureaucratic in Puglia!) an alternative might be to find a local estate agent to secure a short term let at local rates- probably well under 500 Euro a month, rather than holiday lets, at tourist prices, from tourist agencies. Try 'lecce immobiliare' on a search engine for listings of italian agents
