The most frequent connections are by SITA bus, but you must connect buses in Amalfi. Buses run hourly.

www.sitasudtrasporti.it (lines 5120 and 5070)

You can also take a boat between Amalfi and Sorrento, but there are only two departures per day in each direction, and only during the spring/summer/autumn seasons. The boat departure times may also not be ideal for you. Moreover, you still need to take the SITA bus between Maiori and Amalfi.

www.alicost.it

Taking the boat is very expensive (17 Euros each way between Amalfi and Sorrento). The bus ticket between Maiori and Amalfi is 2.20 Euros each way.

By contrast, you can ride the SITA buses as much as you wish along the Amalfi Coast with a 24-hr. ticket for 6.80 Euros (valid in both directions for a full 24 hours after validation). This is the economical way to tour the Amalfi Coast.

So, you can see just how more expensive it is to use the ferry boats:

Maiori/Sorrento round trip by combination bus/ferry: 34 + 4.40 = 38.40 Euros per person

Maiori/Sorrento round trip by bus alone: 6.80 Euros per person

Be aware that the SITA buses are usually very crowded, often jam packed with tourists, so it is a very good idea to try to board the bus promptly at both Amalfi and Sorrento. When boarding the bus in Maiori (going westbound to Amalfi), the bus may already be crowded with passengers who boarded in Salerno.
