Guided walking tours of Montepulciano?

Is anyone familiar with anyone who does guided walking tours of Montepulciano? I have done quite a bit of searching but have been unable to find any. Such an interesting town, it's a shame if there aren't any.

This travel agency in Montepulciano offers very reasonable half and full-day tours:

I would think a half-day would be ample for Montepulciano alone.

When we were in Montepulciano, we saw some walking tours going on, but really I don't think it's necessary. It's a fairly small town, spread out along a ridge, so that any place in town is near the main street. We had no problem finding things and seeing everything we wanted to see with a decent guide book and the small map that was in the book.

It's very easy to find your way around Montepulciano with the help of a map and a guidebook. There is a tourist information center at the main entrance to town and they will supply a free map to visitors. A good guide book will give you the information you need to see the sights. There are also lots of lovely shops and restaurants as well.

That's one thing I hate about walking tours. You see a shop you'd like to drop into, and they keep on walking. Then later they stop to give you a shopping break, but there aren't any shops in the vicinity that interest you.

We sometimes go on day trips with our local ski club, or with a local art group. The trips are well organized, most of the other participants are friends and acquaintances, and we get to see lots of places we wouldn't have gone to otherwise. However, they tend to pack the day with walking tours, and I'm not a big fan of those. Probably it keeps them from losing people along the way.

Very valid point bvlenci. We have been to Montepulciano a number of times, and know there is an incredible history regarding this lovely hilltown. I guess I will do my research and become tour guide for the day.

Does anyone know of a website on which I can download a map of Montepulciano, with some history to go along with it?

Shops we shouldn't miss? Good restaurant for lunch?

We want use a tour guide, so if anyone has advice as to what we definitely shouldn't miss on this walk, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Thanks for all of your previous advice........it really helps!

Rick Steve's guide book for Florence and Tuscany has some good maps of Florence and the hill towns, including Montepulciano with a little history alongside. Lots of other good tips too. There are more comprehensive guide books out there but for cutting to the chase, I think Rick Steves' books are good. I got mine used on Amazon fairly cheap. Of course shipping might bring the cost up a bit.
