Good place to stay in August for 3 days?

We are staying in Lake Como for 3 days in August and then would like to stay in the Dolomites for another 3 days before we start our homeward journey. Is Ortisei a good place to stay for walks, good accommodation and restaurants or should we look at somewhere else? We are driving so are prepared to travel each day to see something different. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Any of the 3 villages/towns in the Val Gardena are good to base in. Ortisei, St. Christina and Selva are just 5 min. from one to the next, with St. Christina being in the middle. Ortisei does have a small pedestrian zone and is more of a town. The other two are more of a smaller village. For easy walks with a Dolomite backdrop, check out the beautiful Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi. Get the Mont Seuc/Seiser Alm cable car from Ortisei to reach it.

Here are links to walking and hiking info and lift schedule:

Hello. We loved staying at the Hotel Grones in Ortisei. It's a quiet part of a nice town with great food and such a friendly staff. It's a short walk to the lifts that take you up to several very pretty hiking areas. We also used a car and were very glad we stayed at the Hotel Grones and hiked in Ortisei.

If you want to be near the Dolomites and a quaint City I would recommend Brunico/Bruneck. Rent a car and the dolomites are within reach!
