Portoferraio to Riotorto - how long is the trip?

We are on a cruise and will be stopping at Portoferraio for the day. We recently attended a wine dinner in the states and the owner of the vineyard offered to meet us in Riotorto to show us around. How far is that and how would we get there? Perhaps it is too time-consuming.

It is not far at all. You would need to take a ferry to Piombino and then a taxi to Riotorto. Probably worth the effort to get a personal tour of a vineyard.

Hi!

Riotorto is a small village, about 20 km from Piombino on the Tuscan coast so you'll have to take a ferry to Piombino.

The crossing takes 1 hr but this year one of the navy companies - Corsica Ferries - has some fast ships that take 30mins:

The other companies are:

As you're on foot you don't need to book in advance - just buy your ticket and get on.

If the owner of the vineyard can't meet you in Piombino ( it would be the best thing ) there's a bus service to Riotorto:

Otherwise take a taxi.

Bye :)

Thanks so much for the great information!! I will go through all of these links. I also want to find out from the cruise line exactly where we will be relevant to the ferry. I noted that the cruise line offers a tour of the Napoleon residence (s) in the mornings. Is that something we can walk to or take a cab from the port or should we schedule the tour with the cruise line? It finishes by noon and then we could go to the vineyard and be back by 10 pm that evening.

One of the Villas with the museum is in PF so you can go by foot. You must go by cab to the other one - Villa San Martino.

I'm not sure you'll save time and you won't have a giude but you may save money. If you read for yourself and take a cab to both you'll probably save time...and probabili money but I have no idea what the excursions they offer you may costruzioneFix the price with the cab BEFORE starting off.
