I'm pretty sure you'll miss it, however, the Giro Italia national bike race is going to make traffic insane around here when the race heads to the Costiera Amalfitana on May 16, 2007. This article just mentions that no can can park on the SS163 road, however, I'm pretty sure that traffic is going to be routed to a different road:

So yes, it'd be better to take a ferry to Positano if travelling that day.

There are already loads on coaches and tourists driving on the roads. The traffic is not continuous, it depends on the coaches and tourists really who are unsure of the roads, and end up blocking the roads.

However, between Naples to Positano, shouldn't be too much of a problem.
