Transport from Praiano to Naples Central Train Station

I need transportation from a rental in Praiano to Naples Central Train Station by noon on October 17, 2011. I thought we were staying in Positano - how far apart are they? Would a ferry work for part of the way - to Sorrento? Is there a train from Sorrento to Naples? Is private transport a better option?

Thank You!! Shirley Halvorson

Take the regular SITA bus from Praiano to Sorrento, then connect to the Circumvesuviana train to Napoli Centrale.

NOTE: There should be a more current schedule soon, as this one expired two days ago! Buses run hourly, cost 3.60 Euros one-way and take at least 75 minutes from Praiano to Sorrento.

www.vesuviana.it (Circumvesuviana trains run every 30 minutes. One-way fare 4 Euros. Travel time 40-65 minutes)

The ferry option is not terribly attractive: you'd need to take the bus to Positano, then a hydrofoil to Sorrento, then another hydrofoil to Naples-Beverello, then a bus or taxi to Napoli Centrale. Much easier to travel entirely by land, as noted above.

I'd suggest you get a taxi to take you the 22miles from Praiano to Salerno railway station where trains run frequently to Naples (we've done this on a number of occasions).

Praiano is 6 miles from Positano.

Or bus/taxi to Amalfi (which is in the right direction towards Salerno whereas Positano is the other way) and then ferry to Salerno for the train to Naples - the train station is only a couple of hundred yards from the ferry.

The problem with going via Amalfi/Salerno is that the ferry schedule from Amalfi to Salerno-Concordia Dock may not allow you to reach Napoli Centrale (via Trenitalia train) by 12 noon, unless you manage to catch the pricey 11:29 Intercity (IC) train in Salerno (which might also be running late). If you're willing to run this risk, and if the ferry boat is not cancelled due to inclement weather, this would indeed be a good alternative to routing through Sorrento. The walking distance from the Salerno-Concordia ferry dock to the train station is 800 meters (allow 10 minutes on foot).

NOTE: This option will also be more expensive (taxi or bus to Amalfi; ferry boat to Salerno; Intercity train to Naples) than the routing via Sorrento.
