Ragusa Ibla...our favorite baroque town...

We just came back from Modica, Ragusa Ibla, and Ortygia...

and the favorite by far was Ragusa Ibla...

as it was the most quaint of the three.

The center was large and almost traffic free..

and the restoration of the buildings has been done

exquisitely..the Duomo area with the

The visions of this at evening hours is unforgettable.

The baroque buildings are amazing. This is a clean and charming location. Streets are nice for strolling.

Many good restaurants and cafes.

Our favorite restaurant was ILBAANTICA..

located in the center...nice outdoor seating and

you can smell the garlic outside cooking.

Excellent food. and prices reasonable.

The inside of the restaurant is all antique stone.

We stayed at the IL BAROCCO hotel which was

so quaint and clean...centrally located...exquisite

courtyard gardens and rooms were immaculate and large with excellent air conditioning. The breakfast was like

waking up to a full stocked Sicilain bakery each morning !

What an assortment ! They also served cheese, meats

and very good fruits with superb cappacino and coffee.

Service here is top notch . Priced very reasonable.

This town has lots to see and walk to..we stayed 4 days

and felt it was just right. There is a lovely large

garden park in walking distance as well...with many

beautiful plants. Saw 4 foot lavender hedges here.

Lots of antiquity in Ragusa Ibla and such a relaxing

clean town...

Ciao 00Annie00,

UNESCO baroque Ragusa is a gem!

AST runs the bus service between Siracusa and Ragusa. You will have no problem with buses on Good Friday, 7.00, 8.00, 10.30, 12.00, 12.30….

AST:

And you can also take the train - The service is good here.

We use the local taxi service, because the hotel can

call and set it up for you, and it is not that expensive...

considering how convenient it is ! Nothing like a door to door

ride, and drop off at your next destination door.

You can simply email your hotel, and ask them

approx what a taxi from and to, would cost in euro.

I think I remember it being like 60 euro..

it is so convenient with luggage.

Let me know how you do. We are planning

to go to Ischia this year and that will be a challenge..

taxi and ferry ! Thanks, Caryn

Expect to pay 100,00 euro for a private transfer between Siracusa and Ragusa.

www.chauffeurs-italy.com/service/listino

Sebastiano at Siracusa Taxi would also charge 100,00 euro for a transfer between Siracusa and Ragusa.

http://www.siracusataxi.net/

The rate is a little less expensive with Siracusa Taxi di Sandro Rubino at 90,00 euro and 150,00 euro return.

You can travel from Siracusa to Ragusa Ibla on a SUnday on the treno barocco - which is a train of period carriages which stops at the baroque towns. ON Easter day the schedule should be Siracusa - Ragusa - Siracusa. YOu can find the site at http://treno-barocco.blogspot.com

That’s an interesting suggestion – Though this train doesn’t permit much time in the towns, it’s a very pleasant experience.

Il Treno Barocco will definitely not run on Easter Sunday, but will instead run on Easter Monday from Siracusa to Ragusa.

Thanks Vagabonda the train sounds good but we will be on our way to Berlin on Easter Sunday. Have decided to stay two nights in Siracusa 2 nights Ragusa and be in Catania the last night so we will have no trouble getting to the airport. We have not booked accommodation yet do you think we could chance it and wait till we are there?
