Ragusa or Modica?

We will be visitng Palermo beforehand, but afterwards we are not sure whether to stay in Ragusa or Modica.

We like both areas alot but which would be a better place to stay for the food and scenery? We are planning to stay 2 or 3 nights. And then travel on to Catania. We wont be driving, so location is very important to us! Has to be safe!

If stayin at Modica we are considering staying at L'Orangeria, which I read is in centre of town within easy reach of everything.

If staying at Ragusa we are considering Locanda La Meridiana or B&B L'Orto sul Tetto. Which one has a better location?

Thank you!

Welcome to Sicily funfoodsun!

Ragusa and Modica are both “foodie” towns and wonderful towns to experience local culture and regional cuisine – Ragusa and Modica are blessed with outstanding restaurants, trattorie and osterie.

Ragusa boasts the best restaurant in Sicily…

Ragusa Ibla is the scenic historic centre of Ragusa - B&B L'Orto sul Tetto is located in Ibla. Locanda La Meridiana is located in modern Ragusa and more convenient for public transport.

L'Orangerie is lovely and conveniently positioned in Modica.

Here’s the biggest difference between these two towns…

Thanks Vagabonda!

is there a quicker bus fro Ragusa/Modica to Noto?

I am tempted to base in ragusa because Locanda La Meridiana sounds really good for what we want.

Though, is there a lot of chocolate shops in Modica? I am a chocolate lover and would like to try as much as I can, of course if there is I might be tempted to base us in Modica than Ragusa, since Ragusa is only 30 mins by bus away.

You might note the location of public transport in Modica and Ragusa.

Modica’s bus station is located at the top of Corso Umberto, Modica’s main street. Modica’s train station is an inconvenient walk from the town centre, “Banhof” on this map in the lower left.

www.planetware.com/map/modica-map-i-modic.htm

Ragusa’s public transport is located in Modern Ragusa, Ragusa Superiore, not Ragusa Ibla.

Trains arrive at Piazza del Popolo and there are local buses from Piazza del Popolo to Giardino Ibleo in Ragusa Ibla. Ragusa’s bus station is located at via Zama in Ragusa Superiore.

Taureg found the public transport inconvenient.

Trip Report:

Ragusa province doesn’t have autostrade - AST runs the bus service between Ragusa-Modica and Noto, but you could also take the train. Note however that it’s better to arrive in Noto by bus since Noto’s bus station is nearer the historic centre than Noto’s train station.

www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp…

Locanda La Meridiana owner is very helpful and friendly, and she would kindly assist with transport – Located at the start of Ibla, Locanda La Meridiana would be convenient for reaching Ibla, and also for reaching public transport. Locanda La Meridiana is located about 10 minutes from Ragusa’s train station, and about 15 minutes from the bus station.

Modica chocolate is unlike any chocolate you are likely to have eaten. Read more about it before deciding to base in Modica for the chocolate:

lovesicily.com/cookery-school-in-sicily/sici…

Bonajuto (and I imagine other chocolate shops) also make 'mpanatigghi, a pastry with a chocolate and beef filling.
