Quite Pistes/areas in/near Selva is Sella Ronda busy

Hi we are going to Selva 10-17 Jan. We are able to Ski most reds, could anyone reccommend an area or pistes which are not too crowded.

Planning to do the Sella Ronda, I read this can be busy, is it busier that at weekends, is it best to do it clockwise or anti (Green or Orange)

Plus any other tips or observations on Selva would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi

The period that you are going to be in Selva is usually one of the quietest times of the season, so you shouldn't have too many problems with crowds.

Anywhere away from the Sella Ronda will be quieter - the Col Raiser-Seceda area is lovely for a day, with wide open runs in a sunny bowl (sun is important as it can be very cold in January), one of the most scenic runs in the Dolomites starts at the top of Seceda and goes all the way down to Ortisei through canyons and the Val d'Anna, and there are some lovely mountain huts.

You could also use the Sella Ronda as a motorway to get to areas in other valleys.

The Sella Ronda itself is usually quietest on a Saturday, as this is transfer day, but you're transfering on a Saturday, so try Tuesday/Wednesday when the beginning of week rush will have worn off.

Enjoy!!

Hi There

thanks for your reply. Do you know if there is a bus service to another ski-area approx 10-15 km away from Selva

Which ski area do you have in mind? There's a bus that runs down (up?!) to Castelrotto, but it's not a ski bus, it's the service that goes down to Bolzano. There's no service over the passes because they often close them for snow.

There's really no need for buses in this area, you can get everywhere on skis
