Ferries to Stromboli from Sicily

I would be most grateful for information on ferry times/routes from Sicily (Milazzo?) to Stomboli for April 2010. Also from Naples in April. Also any idea on cost please?

Many thanks for the links and info. My girlfriend and i will be near Salerno until the 9th/10th April and fly back to London fron Trapani on Thursday 15th April. I read in one of the earlier forums that you recommend flying to Catania to get to Sicily from that area. Would it be possible to give us some idea of price of flying and the airlines that would do that? Also is the train journey that bad? is it cheaper to go by train and are the views nice from the train? Very Many Thanks

Ciao nickeg,

Much would depend on your route through Sicily.

From Salerno, consider the Caronte ferry to Messina.

www.carontetourist.it/v2.0_it/autostrade.mvd

You could also take the train from Salerno to Naples, the Alibus to the airport, and fly Air Italy to Catania.

http://www.airitaly.eu/site/index.php

Or fly Air One from Naples to Palermo – Some flights are direct.

The train is slow, tedious and dirty – Some views.

Ciao Vagabonda,

Thanks again for you help so far! I would much appeciate some further help and tips.. I will start by giving you my itinery so far. My girlfrind and i fly into Naples on 6th April and expect to catch the Curreri bus line to Sorrento, then the SITA bus to Marina Del Cantone, staying at the Hotel La Certosa for 3 nights. 6th, 7th and8th. We fly back to England from Trapani at 10.35 on Thurday 15th April. So we have some infilling to do.. We would most like to climb Sromboli on one evening so we will probably need on nights stay on the island. we would also like to see plenty of Baroque architecture. My idea at the moment would be fly from Naples on the 9th to Catania, stay near there for 9th, 10th,11th, go to Milazzo on Mon 12th and catch a ferry to Stromboli. Come back to Milazzo on tuesday 12th... then what to do? does this sould feasable? we will be using public transport - are there good day trips from Catania to many places? your help and advice please>

Best regards

Nick

Ciao Nick,

A slight issue that Trapani is clear across Sicily from Catania and with a 10.35 flight, you will need to spend your last night on the 14th in Trapani.

Take the AST bus from Trapani to Trapani Birgi.

Have you considered going to Stromboli from Naples??

Naples to Aeolian Islands Overnight Ferry Description:

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187785-i421-k3176…

From the Aeolians, take the Ustica Lines hydrofoil to Messina and take SAIS to the airport in Catania and Interbus from Catania to Siracusa.

http://www.usticalines.it/

http://www.saisautolinee.it/

http://www.interbus.it/

Visit beautiful Baroque Noto from Siracusa.

Interbus runs direct service to Palermo, and Segesta runs direct service from Palermo to Trapani.

http://www.segesta.it/

If you were to fly to Catania, take Interbus to Siracusa, see Noto from Siracusa (AST or Interbus), then take Interbus back to Catania, SAIS to Messina, and Ustica Lines to Stromboli. Return to Messina and take SAIS to Palermo.

If you prefer Taormina, take Etna Trasporti from the airport to Taormina and Interbus from Taormina to Messina, SAIS to Palermo and Segesta to Trapani.

You will see much of Sicily in a few days!

Buona Fortuna!

Cioa vagabonda,

We are taking the flying route to Catania from Naples on 9th April, with 3 nights staying in Syracusa - all booked. I have looked on the Ustica lines website, but it seems that it's timetable is for the summer months. I have tried ringing but could not find an English speaker (my Italian = tiny amounts) I would like to get to Stomboli on Tuesday 13th, do the trek in the evening, stay the night on one of the islands, then be back to Messina on the Wednesday 14th ready to travel over to Trapani for the evening of 14th (i have booked a night in Trapani for the eve 14th)

So , we leave Syracusa on the Monday 12th and travel northwards towards Messina to catch a ferry on 13th - where shoul we stay so as to get to the ferry in time please?

Very many thanks for your time

Ciao nickeg,

Ustica Lines only runs service from Messina to Stromboli in summer – Check departures from Milazzo to Stromboli, 7.20 and 16,20.

Ustica Lines posts its INVERNALE schedule - Dal 16/09/2009 Al 31/05/2010

If you were to look on the Ustica Lines website, click on ‘Select period’ to retrieve the Winter Schedule (INVERNALE) schedule.

If you were to take the early crossing, you would have little choice but to spend the night in Milazzo.

Transport from Catania to Milazzo:

tripadvisor.com/…11493347

Also Hotel La Bussola:

http://www.hotelabussola.it/

But if you were to take the crossing at 16,20, you could spend the prior night in Taormina.
