Cost of beaches

I have been reading about Viareggio and it mentions that there is a charge for the beach. Is this true for all beaches? How much is this charge?

The beach is split up into bagnos which are privately run. They provide umbrellas, chairs, showering facilities, snack bar etc. and are very clean. Prices vary a little - the cheapest one we used was 26 euros, the most expensive 30 euros. That was for three of us - think it's cheaper if you only need two chairs. There is a strip of free beach in Viareggio (you can't put up an umbrella there which means you're exposed to the sun, but it's OK for a couple of hours) there is also a nicer strip of free beach in Lido di Camaiore which is next to Viareggio - might be walkable depending on which end of Viareggio you are staying at.

We also found that the facilities on offer from each bagno varied. Some (e.g. Vespucci) had their own swimming pool which we found an excellent alternative to the sea (especially as there were more than a few jellyfish around when we were there - two weeks ago).

We like to visit beaches when travelling. We always buy very lightweight cheap beach chairs when arrive and plan on visiting beach areas for a few days, and keep them in the car. I once brought chairs on the flight from NYC, but they didn't show up, maybe someone liked them.
