Viareggio

Hi everyone,

I am travelling to Tuscany in a few weeks. I plan to stay in Lucca for two or three days and then I wanted to travel to the coast for a few days to relax on the beach. Is Viareggio recommended or are there better coastal options for some down time? Also, does anyone have any mid-range hotel recommendations for Lucca (city centre preferably) and Viareggio?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, we went for a day by train from Lucca. it only takes about 20 minutes so is easy for a day trip. There are many luxury yachts in the marina to walk round and admire, a nice long breakwater to walk down and a small bit of public beach but if you want to sit in deck chairs then you have to pay on these private bits but the beach is miles long so a walk and paddle in the water is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Im not sure we would have wanted any more than a day there but the back drop of the mountains in the background makes Viareggio a nice relaxing excursion from Lucca. Cinque Terre is also a good day trip from Lucca by train too.

Hope this helps

Hi,

We are visiting Pisa area for a couple of days, plan to visit also Lucca and Cinque Terre but are looking for another village to spend a day in. Would love to hear if somebody has been into a nice place nearby... Is Viareggio the only place worth considering ? Thanks !

Pietrasanta is a lovely small town in that area, with a lot of artists and sculptors. Good food, easy to walk around for an afternoon.not touristy.
