Jilma,

Is it easier and near the same amount of time to take the bus from Pisa to Pontederra and from there take the bus to Volterra? Also, where do we buy our tickets? In the station? Do we need to validate(stamp) before boarding like on the train? Sorry so many questions.

Well, going by car is for sure quicker than by bus,you will have to check the times that the buses are leaving Pontedera for Volterra as they are not that frequent otherwise you will be waiting around a bit in Pontedera if you don't time it right. Yes, you can get your tickets at the station.

Try this

In 2008 we went from Lucca as below

We took the train from Lucca to Pisa Central, changed to another train to Pondetera, inclusive journey time about an hour, cost 6.80 euros for both of us.

Then the bus from Pondetera to Volterra, one hour 15 minutes, at a cost of 6.90 euros.

Hope it still works
