easy jet

We're flying Easy Jet to Santorini this month and the ferry schedules are a bit tight with our return flight time. Does anyone know how long it takes to get from the ferry port to the airport in Santorini? Our flight starts checking in at 1155 but from wwhat I can see our only option is a ferry that doesn't arrive from Ios until 1210. Will we get to the airport in time for a 1315 check in closure?

Never assume that a ferry will arrive on schedule. It's not even a good idea to wait until the day of your flight to get to the airport if it's on a different island in case the ferry is cancelled. Best go to Santorini the day before.

Hi. we are doing the same return in September.

We are just going to jump in the first taxi and hope.

It takes about 20 minutes.

On your way out you could maybe try and sort something out for the return trip with the taxi that takes you down to the port, if he speaks decent English.

The ferry that goes from Ios is reliable.

If there are no cabs about just ask at a restaurant.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

If you haven't been before Ios is a great island,

we've been going for over 25 years.

Fine. Do that if you're happy to see your holiday extended until the next Easyjet flight with spare seats. You might not have to wait more than a couple of days.

Personally I wouldn't chance it. Not only are you relying on the ferry arriving on time (if it's the one coming from Rafina, it makes several stops before Ios, increasing the chance of delay), but you are also relying on getting a taxi to the airport on time. There are usually lots of taxis at the Santorini port, but also lots of people waiting to take them.

Mccon59, currently Hellenic Seaways is showing their catamarans stopping at Ios only until 6th Sep. If you are travelling after that date, you may have to think again.

When you read ferry arrival, you must know that it means the time that the ferry enters the port. From that to docking it can take anything from 10 minutes and upwards.

Assuming that you will be among the first who'll disembark, you won't get into a taxi in less than 10 minutes.

Assuming that there won't be any traffic around the port, you won't enter the arrivals in less than 25 minutes.

If you do the math, you will see what you are risking.

BTW, do you have an alternative or are you just hoping that this crazy plan will work?

Let me clarify my previous post. I was referring to the Hellenic Seaways catamaran which arrives on Santorini at 1210 not being scheduled beyond 6th Sep. FlyingCat 4, of course, will be running after that date, but doesn't arrive on Santorini until 1745, too late for the easyJet flight.

I agree it is a really big risk and if you are prepared to take it and have the money for another flight then it is your choice.

We got a ferry from Santorini to Pireaus last year and it was too hours late arriving in Pireaus due to taking longer to disenbark etc in the ports along the way.

Another vote for not taking the risk.

When the time is that tight (actually, almost impossible with disembarkation etc) the risk is huge. You are totally reliant on that ferry being bang on time, getting off first & a taxi being immediately available. Not to mention the slight, but not to be ignored, chance of weather or mechanical delays.

Risk it or not? Your call, but no way I would feel happy all holiday with that to worry about!

Well, you've now had four DEs advising you not to take the risk - that's a lot of combined experience.

Another point not yet mentioned is that easyJet is very strict on check-in times - miss the cutoff, and you are out of luck. Suggest you spend the last night on Santorini, and eliminate all that worry - stay in Fira and you can take bus or taxi to the airport the next morning.

Hi again,

If you miss the flight but get to the check-in within two hours it will cost you £38 for the next flight (check with easyjet website).

No plane till Sunday though (go back to Ios).

One year there was a ferry strike and a Greek friend borrowed a speed boat to take us over to Santorini.

It broke down half way across.

Long story but we got there.

Enjoy Ios, timetables change, the weather changes, just keep in touch with the locals.

You're not there yet so don't worry.

The port at Santorini opens all night if you want to get alate ferry the night before your flight.
